Netflix released the first season of the spicy show “Love Never Lies” on November 11, 2021. Despite the fact that its all in Spanish it was actually pretty easy to follow (I don’t speak Spanish but maybe I should). Yes, the Dubbed version is a mess but it doesn’t take away from the show in the slightest. The concept is similar to USA Networks “Temptation Island“. Couples come to the resort to test their strength and trust in each other. All the while being separated and having to deal with sexy singles. They’re separated into two groups (not boys vs. girls) and put on different sides of the resort. At which point one side of the island gets visited by compatible singles… or an ex of an islander who’s still interested. On the other side, they get a chance to watch their partner interact with these people.

What’s the Catch?

There’s a collective winning money pot starting at 40,000 euros. They can win up to 100,000 euros. Individuals can choose to spend money on the “premium” version to watch what the free “basic” version didn’t let them see or hear about their partner. Which all of them were willing to pay at one point or another. Winning money back into the pot seemed difficult for all as they had to go in front of an eye lie detector and answer questions their partner wanted clarification on. Money is gained when the truth is told, but deducted when they lie. You win the game by being the most truthful couple. Just tell the truth and get money… Simple enough right? Well… maybe not.

The Love Never Lies Couples

We have Mar & Aleix, Paula & Daniel (Danny), Cristina & Carlos, Adrian & Laura, Kevin & Katherine, and our gay couple Fran and Jose. Right off the bat we find out juicy information about each couple on why they came to the resort. Mar & Aleix have both been unfaithful outside of the show. Cristina has cheated on Carlos multiple times. Adrian cheated on Laura but claims to be “in love” with Laura but then proceeds to call her a boring individual while he goes out and parties. Kevin is a compulsive liar (probably because he was ashamed of his secret sexuality). Daniel thinks Paula dresses too conservative (wants her to wear more skin tight outfits when they go out). Fran has been a master manipulator while Jose is a online cheater.

The couples were then split into two groups on the second day after their first successful truth ceremony.

Group one consisted of Adrian, Mar, Jose, Paula, Katherine, and Carlos. Group two was Aleix, Cristina, Laura, Kevin, Fran, and Danny.

The Drama Breakdown

So obviously if I wrote this out episode by episode this whole thing would take forever to read. Therefor I have compiled all the juicy bits throughout the show.

Kevin & Katherine:

• Katherine had her doubts that Kevin was faithful but she also had questions about his sexuality. After rekindling an old flame she decides that her ex is more of a reliable person to be with than Kevin. Kevin opened up to a single girl about how he can’t even get hard for Katherine anymore. Gee I wonder why…
  • Katherine gets her answer about Kevin’s’ sexuality when she decides to dump him and leave with her ex in episode 5. She finds out the truth through the results of the eye lie detector in an envelope. Due to sensitive material we never actually get a confirmation that he is secretly homosexual but it is heavily implied by her reaction when she reads the envelope contents.

Jose & Fran:

• Ok so there’s really not that much to unpack here. Fran did something shady with Jose and his parents creating a rift between them. We also found out through the eye lie detector that Fran is a master manipulator to keep Jose locked in with him.
  • Jose had a secret Instagram fling with Juan Luca who he seemed genuinely happier with which drove Fran crazy (literally, he tried to leave the show several times)

Paula & Danny:

• Danny wondered about how deeply Paula felt about him, discovered she was more into the money aspect of the show than wanting to leave with him. Paula was also planning to leave him and move out before she agreed to come on the show with him
  • Accused Danny of cheating when he would be working (was confirmed that he was).

Cristina & Carlos:

• Carlos just wanted the truth about how many time Cristina was unfaithful, was ashamed of her actions and had even admitted during the eye lie detector session that his life has been worse since they’ve been together.
  • Cristina claims she loves Carlos (even though the number of times she cheated was pretty high). Actions spoke louder when all she did was flirt and talk about how she didn’t want to be with Carlos anymore. Said he was never her type and she’s with him out of convenience.

Adrian & Laura:

• The whole season all we heard was how Laura wanted to get away from Adrian because of all the secrets and infidelity. And all we heard from Adrian was his crying… not sure why since most of the time he was the one causing an issue on purpose. Their relationship was just so toxic.

And now for the biggest mess on this season…

Mar & Aleix:

• They came in seemingly strong with minor doubts. Mar said Aleix was very flirty and Aleix claims mar was too much of a jealous girlfriend. Doesn’t seem that bad right? lol…
  • Mar watched him flirt relentlessly with single girl Alexandra… and she also saw him get real “connected”… and after all that heart break, the hot tears streaming down her face… she still wanted to be with him. In my opinion Mar had every right to be a jealous girlfriend. Aleix was a two timer and a smooth talker. Getting away with whatever he wanted. Is Mar with him because she’s afraid to be alone?

Who Won Love Never Lies & How much?

For reasons I’m still scratching my head over, Paula and Danny won Love Never Lies. They ended up being were the most truthful out of all the couples even though they were not the strongest. And yet they might have been? Leaving the resort hand in hand along with 55,000 euros!

Where are the Couples Now?

After doing some deep investigating (snooping) on all of their Instagram pages, here’s what I found.:

• Cristina & Carlos: Together! Looking happy and fit as ever as of February 6, 2022

• Laura & Adrian: Together! Possibly engaged or getting engaged?? Couldn’t find clarification. Photo uploaded February 1, 2022

• Mar & Aleix: I couldn’t find any hard evidence that they are or were still together after the show but I did find a source from Blurred Reality stating that after the show they were back together for a period of time. Both their Insta pages are focused on themselves so my best guess that that they are no longer an item.
• Katherine & Kevin: Katherine and then ex Elias are sill going strong as of February 2, 2022 but here’s a cute picture for evidence from January 31, 2022. Kevin’s Instagram is private but he has yet to approve my request so it is a bit of a mystery on where he is today.

• Fran & Jose: Possibly still together? Not many pictures of them together but I did find this gem posted on December 8, 2021. Kinda obsessed with this picture lol.

And last but definitely not least, our Love Never Lies winners!

Is It Worth The Watch?

Yes! This was a different and very interesting concept and it had me yelling at the TV from time to time. Which for me is a good indicator of a must watch show. Very excited for a season two…although I’m not finding anything about a renewal. There is still hope though as this just came out on Netflix November 11, 2021. Fingers crossed that Netflix listens to the fans demands for the second season!
