Watch or Nah?
I was hesitant to even watch this season of Love is Blind just because it was just not very good the first time around. Yes season 1 had some drama that drew me in, *cough* Jessica, Amber & Matt. But other than that I found myself watching on and off. Season 2 is much like season 1 except there’s no respect and hardly anything was taken seriously. Plus I made sure to constantly watch it just incase I missed anything noteworthy. You’re welcome, I did this for you… even though I was still kind of bored. I do however recommend watching this series, the drama that does happen gets you fired up. But honestly, its a bit slow. My overall season rating is at the end of the article.
Is Love Blind?
That is the entire premise of this social experiment done by Nick and Vanessa Lachey. Unfortunately it appears that this season (like the last) proved that love is NOT blind. Although the contestants said different, I just don’t believe them. Especially since only two couples out of the six actually said “I do” at the alter. I’m pretty sure our wonderful hosts could see their experiment failing, which is why they started a whole new social experiment called “The Ultimatum”. We will get into that another time, for now my focus is on this science faux pas.
The Pods
This is where the disrespect began… “What are you wearing” ,“How heavy are you” and “You sound hot” were some of the more popular things said in the pods this season. The look on the ladies faces when these guys spoke to them like they were phone sex operators was priceless. And yet shockingly enough the two men who said these things the most actually found ladies they proposed to…and got a yes…I am confusion…
We also had another “Jessica” situation on our hands.
Meet Shayne, Natalie and Shaina
Shaye was in building an emotional tie with Natalie while lusting after Jessica…I mean Shaina.
How could any one be in “lust” on this show? Considering this is a show about love over looks, it’s really not supposed to happen. He popped frequent questions such as “What are you wearing right now” and Jes-Shaina lapped this up! She was all for the naughty talk. She also loved competing for Shayne with Natalie. Every time Natalie would come back from a pod date with Shayne, Shaina would make the above face or roll her eyes.
But in the end of the pod period she lost to Natalie. Though she did try a last ditch effort to win him over just minutes before he proposed to Natalie.
The “Final” Couples After Pods
Shayne & Natalie:
Shayne’s constant need to be told how pretty he was caused ALOT issues/fights. Natalie’s nervous jokes made Shayne feel like she didn’t want him or think he was “ridiculously good looking”.
Plus Shaina still wanted to have her name in Shayne’s hat, still did all the way to the reunion allegedly… I had predicted they wouldn’t make it to the alter… When I found out I was right I kind of felt bad but in my opinion it is for the best.
Nick & Danielle:
These two crazy kids had me wondering a little. Had my suspicions about Nicks sexuality but honestly in this day in age almost everyone is pretty fluid so who cares… unless he is trying to make Danielle his full beard…
Danielle had her fair share of vulnerable moments that drove Nick up a wall! Her insecurities spilled out of her the first group get together outside the pods. Silly girl thought her new man would turn his head. They had quite a few frustrating fights about the same things, my faith in them was super minimal. I had predicted them to say I don’t but I was wrong! When they said “I do” I was shocked, I walked back into the room like whhhhaaaaaat?!
Mallory & Salvador:
I wish I could just put a gif of my eyes rolling while watching their journey. I feel so bad for Sal. What an amazing man (on screen), I couldn’t believe Mal still had a thing for Jarrette even after saying yes to Sa. Even though her reason for saying no to Jarrette was her feelings for Sal was much stronger. Was it really just because the ring was silver and not gold or was it because she had a little regret after meeting Jarrette in person. No matter how Sal romanced her there was always something Mallory found to fight about. Except when Sal’s ex showed up… The one real excuse to start a fight. I really did have high hopes for these two just because they could have been so good together. But… Sal trusted his gut and said nope. Leaving her broken hearted at the alter.
Deepti & Abhishek “Shake”:
I. FELT. SO. BAD. FOR DEEPTI. This poor girl went through a freaking hero’s journey. Lost an amazing amount of weight and gained so much confidence, came on the show for true love, found her evil nemesis and defeated him… Fake Shake wasn’t there for finding love without his eyes. He was there to find himself a small, blonde honey. With the way he disrespected Deepti (really all women) he should have gone on a different show. He even admitted to it at the reunion after getting quite the tongue lashing from both Nick and Vanessa Lachey.
Nick & Vanessa Lachey were not only super frustrated with him but also extremely grossed out when he attempted to flirt with Vanessa while right next to her husband saying that she was the only woman he was truly attracted to! According to Deepti, this wasn’t the first time he confessed his lust to Vanessa. During the couples reveal he made passing comments about her and also made several of the girls cry. He later had it out on Instagram with Nick Lachey about the respect of being a Veterinarian. Later he made an apology to Deepti about all the horrible things he said about her on national tv… but I don’t think he is forgiven so easily… not by the public anyway.
Constantly telling someone they aren’t attractive and its like being with a family member (aunt specifically) isn’t something you can just come back from… not to mention all the body shaming he did to her, fully aware she had lost a lot of weight recently and was proud of her body. If I were his mother I would be so ashamed, treating women like we are just an aesthetic gives me the urge to purge.
Jarrette & Iyanna:
What a lovely couple… If Jarrette wasn’t trying hard for Mallory after getting engaged to Iyanna even though he originally wanted to be with Mal. Making Iyanna feel like the second choice as well as making her feel lonely when he goes out and partying all night and not answering his phone. They definitely had some things to sort through and some boundaries to explain but in the end they ended their story as a happy fairytale. With both saying I do at the alter and still being quite happy at the reunion, they walk away probably the most stable and stable couple out of all the others. I really love this couple and hope the best for them in their future for Iyanna’s sake.
Shaina & Kyle:
There’s really not much to say about these two except when they did the couples reveal Shaina told Kyle her heart wasn’t in it and he couldn’t take no for an answer. Hmm sounds a little too similar right?…
Although Shaina kept telling Kyle she didn’t think there was much left between them he still held out and met her parents. Though she claims it was because of their different religious views, it’s clear that there was a man in between them, her now fiancé Christos Lardakis who proposed on March 10th of this year (2022).
Must have just met him right after she tried to manipulate Shayne on the beach into ditching Natalie and going with her instead.
Well at least she found her ride or die who can tolerate her disapproving squints that give us muppet vibes…
My Rating:
Ehhhhhh…. I’ll give it a 5.5 out of 10. Entertaining enough but also kind of hard to watch due to its predictability. Honestly the most interesting part of this show was the reunion, so watch the whole thing so you can understand everything that’s going on.
